Chondromalacia patella, also known as runner’s knee, is a condition characterized by softening and breakdown of the cartilage on the underside of the kneecap. It often presents as knee pain, particularly when climbing stairs, kneeling, or sitting for prolonged periods with bent knees. Contributing factors may include overuse, muscle imbalances, or injury. Treatment typically involves rest, physical therapy to strengthen the surrounding muscles, and avoiding activities that worsen symptoms. In some cases, orthotics or braces may be recommended to provide additional support for the knee.
