Patellar tendonitis, also known as jumper’s knee, is an overuse injury characterized by inflammation and pain in the patellar tendon that connects the kneecap to the shinbone. It typically occurs due to repetitive strain from activities involving jumping, running, or quick changes in direction. Symptoms may include pain, tenderness, swelling, and difficulty with activities that involve bending or straightening the knee. Treatment may involve rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and in severe cases, corticosteroid injections or surgery may be considered.
