A bunion, also known as hallux valgus, is a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe, causing it to angle toward the other toes. This condition can result in pain, inflammation, redness, and difficulty wearing certain types of shoes. Bunions often develop due to genetic predisposition, wearing tight or narrow shoes, or having certain foot shapes. Non-surgical treatments may include wearing wider shoes, padding, orthotic inserts, and pain-relieving measures. In severe cases, surgical correction may be considered to alleviate symptoms and realign the toe.
